Deccan – The Crown Jewel Launch

Deccan Gymkhana, the heart of Pune’s food scene, witnessed one of our most spectacular openings yet. If there was ever a moment that felt like we’d “made it,” it was seeing a massive crowd gather at Fergusson College Road, right in front of our new Thecha Vadapav outlet, despite the mid-monsoon drizzles. Deccan is where old Pune meets new Pune – students, professionals, and families all converge here – and on our opening day, it seemed like every one of them showed up craving a bite. Traffic slowed to a crawl (no worries, only partially due to us!) as people double-parked their two-wheelers and hurried over to see what the buzz was about. Our team was working in high gear: frying vadas non-stop, slathering thecha on pavs, and handing them out as fast as we could – yet the demand just kept growing. It was insane in the best way possible. We served more than a thousand vada pavs on Day 1 alone – a new record for us – and each one went out with love and a side of astonishment (from customers and our staff alike!).

Opening in Deccan also felt like a homecoming of sorts. Many of our long-time customers from other areas came by to congratulate us, saying how proud they felt seeing Thecha Vadapav right here on FC Road among iconic eateries they grew up with. Some even joked, “Ab Deccan pe vadapav war suru!” (Now the vada pav wars on Deccan begin!), teasing that we’re giving the old favorites a spicy run for their money. We introduced a limited-edition “Deccan Dynamo” vada pav – featuring an extra-crunchy vada and double the thecha for those who dare – exclusively for the first month. Pune’s fiery food challenge lovers ate it up (literally), and social media was flooded with Deccan Dynamo challenge videos! There was an atmosphere of celebration – like Thecha Vadapav had become a part of Pune’s food heritage that day. For our team, this milestone was both humbling and exhilarating: humbling because being at Deccan Gymkhana is an honor (it’s where legends are), and exhilarating because it affirmed that our spicy fare belongs on the grandest stage in the city.
